According to a government impact assessment conducted in 2023, food waste currently costs the UK £19 billion each year. This equates to roughly £1,000 per household – that’s £200 already gone by March. The environmental impact of this is also significant, with food waste contributing to approximately 8-10% or around 4 billion tonnes of global greenhouse gas emissions annually – nearly five times the total emissions from the aviation sector!
