Maeve Wilcock, Bin Lift PLanner at Terberg Matec UK
Thank you, happy to be involved. I’ve now been with Terberg Matec UK for just over two years and am currently a Bin Lift Planner for the business.
Being a part of the Terberg Matec team is thrilling, full of support, and often exciting, as every single day is different.
My main responsibilities include organising where our bin lifts are meant to be and when, as well as the distribution of these. I’m also tasked with overseeing multiple spreadsheets related to our bin lift movements to ensure these are both accurate and up-to-date. In addition to this, I’m now in charge of ordering our bin lifts from our colleagues in the Netherlands.

I started out at Terberg Matec UK as a Workshop Administration apprentice, which involved acting as an administrator for booking in projects, assisting with claims, and gaining quotes from customers. Following this, I progressed to a full-time role as an Operations Coordinator. Although I was new to the industry, everyone at Terberg Matec UK was incredibly supportive and welcoming so I’ve been able to settle in really quickly.
I feel very lucky that my first job has been with Terberg Matec UK. As soon as I’d passed my apprenticeship, I knew I wanted to stay on. It sounds cliched, but because I’m part of a small team it feels very much like a work family. I love coming into work every day and am already really comfortable in my new role.
I’m particularly grateful for the degree of independence I’ve been given while working with the business. I’ve had a lot of free rein to shape the role to suit me and my skills thus far. What’s been especially helpful is a series of monthly apprenticeship forums, which enables apprentices from across the organisation to better understand how we can best contribute to its success as a whole. I’ve even been given the opportunity to interview future apprentices prior to them joining the business, offering an insight into my own experiences.

The fact I’ve gained my position as Bin Lift Planner in the space of two years is the thing I’m most proud of. I was actually put forward for the role, which only demonstrates the support and trust from my team – it’s been a big journey to get to where I am now and it’s a fantastic achievement.
I’m really excited to be able to make the role my own and craft it to suit my way of working. I’ll be taking into account any past challenges or issues that we may have encountered to get on top of things and ensure we stay on track, assessing how our processes have been running to date to identify where improvements could be made.
I used to play quite a bit of football, but I had to give this up. In fact, I played for the business at a Business Fives National Final event last year in Birmingham and was named Female Player of the Tournament, which was great fun to be involved in. To stay active alongside going to the gym, I now dance in heels instead!
